The 19th annual Chutzpah! Festival is in full swing and continues until November 24, 2019 with performances at the Norman Rothstein Theatre, Vogue Theatre, Rickshaw Theatre, and The WISE. The Chutzpah! Festival celebrates culturally rich works in comedy, music, theatre and dance.
Here are three exciting dance works playing at this year’s festival:
· The world premiere of ProArteDanza’s The 9th (a contemporary ballet of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony), choreographed by Robert Glumbek and Roberto Campanella. Campanella was a former National Ballet of Canada dancer and he choreographed Academy Award-winning film The Shape of Water. Read about his journey in my exclusive #BoysDanceToo profile on him. The 9th opened this past Saturday and will play its final performance at the festival on Monday, October 28.
· The North American premiere of MM Contemporary Dance’s Gershwin Suites (choreographed by Michele Merola) and Schubert Frames (choreographed by Enrico Morelli).
· The Canadian premiere of UNA Project’s Coloring. Choreographer and Artistic Director Chuck Wilt. An episodic dance inspired by themes of identity, unity, and mutual respect through researching queer histories, drawing inspiration from personal narratives from members of the LGBTQ community.
