On Saturday, September 30th, I had the pleasure of volunteering for the Alberta Ballet at Doors Open YYC, a citywide event that allowed the public to visit numerous historical Calgary buildings and sites free of charge. These venues included The Calgary Tower, The Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts, Simmons Mattress Building and Fort Calgary. I got to help the Alberta Ballet host their open house at the legendary Nat Christie Centre.

Well the 2012 London Olympics are in the history books now. And history was definitely made at these Olympics! Gabby Douglas became the first African American to win the Olympic women’s gymnastics all-around title, Michael Phelps officially became the greatest Olympian of all time, Misty May-Treanor and Keri Walsh Jennings won an unprecedented third straight Olympic title in women’s beach volleyball, Adam Van Koeverden made Canada proud with his silver medal performance in men’s kayaking, and Tom Daley stole the heart of Great Britain.

Well, the much anticipated 100th Calgary Stampede has now come and gone! By all accounts, it is regarded as the greatest Stampede ever. Attendance records were through the roof and big name musical acts such as Garth Brooks, Carly Rae Jepson, Dragonette, Simple Plan, Mother Mother and Paul Brandt played a large role in attracting the masses.
