Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end. And yes, that includes summer 2012! As per usual, Calgary Pride took place over Labour Day long weekend and this year’s Pride was a stunning affair, showcasing what a supportive and diverse city Calgary has emerged into!
On the morning of Sunday, September 2, I started parade day with an amazing breakfast at my friend, Jason’s condo. It was such a great way to make new friends to see old friends. Thanks Jason for your great hospitality!
Next, we all headed down to the parade, which ran along 8th Ave. The turnout was huge this year! And I loved how I saw people of every age and ethnicity at the Parade – what a wonderful representation of our amazing city. It was also great to see all the organizations that participated in the parade. One of my dreams has always been to see Danae, Adam, Fuzzy and Danny from the Virgin Radio on-air team. Imagine my excitement when I saw them in the parade! I even got to congratulate Danae on her wedding!
After the parade, we walked town to the Pride Festival at Shaw Millennium Park - what a great party it was! I saw the Good Life Fitness Van there and my friend Ben and I couldn’t resist posing in front of it! We really wanted to show how fit we are!
Besides parade day, the Pride weekend was a great way to celebrate the end of summer with friends, reminisce about the goals we’ve accomplished and look forward to achieving new ones. For me, this summer has served as a turning point in my life. I graduated from the University of Calgary in June and I worked as a corporate communications summer intern at TransAlta Corporation.
Now, I look forward to the years ahead. I know it will include a lot of challenges and tough decisions, but I look forward to the accomplishments, rewards and lessons that I will learn. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. It’s been a glorious summer – now let’s make it a spectacular fall!
Below are some of my favourite moments from this past summer!
