Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t love a good party? Who doesn’t love contributing to a good cause? And lastly, who doesn’t love wearing pink...wait, don’t answer that. Because I’m just going to assume you agree with me in saying that everyone loves all three of those things. That’s exactly why the 8th annual Pink Party held on Saturday, March 28th, was such a blast!
This annual soiree celebrates the birthdays of Lisa, Kat and Greg Marks as well as Jeremy Martel, Derek MacDonald and Dr. Larry Marks. Held this year at Roosevelt on 17th avenue, party goers enthusiastically donned their favourite pink outfits to dance the night away while also helping support two charitable organizations: The Salvation Army’s Work Boots program and the Cameron Daye Sarcoma Research Fund.
The Salvation Army’s Work Boots program helps local construction workers gain access to the basic tools they require for work, such as work boots, hard hats and tool belts. The Cameron Daye Sarcoma Research Fund is a program that is developing ways to battle spindle cell sarcoma, a deadly connective tissue cancer.
The 350 Pink Party attendees were able to either make their donations to the party’s supported causes online prior to the party, or at the door. $13,500 was raised from party goers for the Salvation Army’s Work Boots program. Matched by the Marks family, a grand total of $27,000 was donated towards Work Boots. An additional $500 was presented to the Cameron Daye Sarcoma Research Fund. No doubt the funds raised will help make a positive difference to the lives of many.
Last but not least, this was a birthday party! Everyone who celebrated their birthday on this evening were able to say that their guests were tickled pink. Congratulations to everyone involved for helping out their community while wearing pink and looking fabulous !
