Alberta Theatre Projects miss the mark with 'The Circle'

I have bad news....I attended opening night of Alberta Theatre Projects' (ATP) latest play, The Circle this past Friday, October 23, and I was very disappointed with what I saw. Hailed by ATP as a provocative and brave depiction of the dangerous time of youth, there was tremendous hype leading up to Friday's world premiere of the show, which made it all the more disappointing.

The rehearsals are over, the previews are winding down, and the stage is set for the world premiere of The Circle at Alberta Theatre Projects on Friday, October 23. Written by local playwright Geoffrey Simon Brown, who recently graduated from the National Theatre School, The Circle is an exciting new play about the turbulence of adolescence.

There is an evil lurking onstage at the Max Bell Theatre and everyone will be a suspect starting this Friday, October 16. That’s when Theatre Calgary opens its production of Arthur Miller’s chilling masterpiece, The Crucible. Set in 1692 during the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts, The Crucible tells a disturbing tale of a community that is torn apart by fear.
